About Us

Friends of Burford

The Friends Of Burford (FOB) is the PTA for Burford School and its remit is to help organise events and raise money for the children at Burford School. It is made up completely of parent volunteers, who generously give their time for the betterment of the school.

Friends Of Burford run many successful events each year that are in and around the school. They have helped to provide the school with much entertainment, equipment as well as significant infrastructure such as flooring, play areas, equipment and facilities.

Along with Playing Fields Committee, FOB helps to put on one of the highlights of each summer, namely "The Rose Carnival" an extravaganza and local fete. This has been highly successful for many years and has helped to raise considerable moneys. Because of this success, when the idea of putting on a joint fireworks show was discussed, it was well supported. The key elements for such an event were all in place, namely the safety of using school grounds for the spectators, separating them from the launch site. Plus the expertise and manpower required for such a big event was available from both organisations working in harmony.

A better match could not be found and so this jointly organised event - Marlow Bottom Fireworks was born. There are many to thank for the conception of this event, but special thanks must be given to FOB Chairperson - Angela Batten as well as the Deputy Chairman - Richard Moss. Their selfless and tireless efforts have helped to turn the idea of such an event into a possibility.

Playing Fields Committee

The playing fields committee run and manage the Playing Fields in Marlow Bottom for the community. Over the last 40 years, they have helped to maintain and develop the playing fields and help it serve the community. Amongst the events organised on the fields is the Rose Carnival, one of the highlights of each summer in the valley.

The Rose Carnival is a jointly organised event , looked forward to with expectation each year. As the largest community event in Marlow Bottom, it's a big fundraiser. All funds from the Rose Carnival are divided between Friends of Burford and the Playing Fields Committee.

It has been a long term goal of the Marlow Bottom Playing fields Committee Chairman - Jason Batten to one again have a firework show in the valley. After a long hiatus of 6 years and after much planning and persuasion,  his vision has come to fruition. We will all be glad to see fireworks in the skies over Marlow Bottom once again !

Landis Media Ltd - who provided this website for free

Landis Media are a local New Media company, whose MD - Howard Williams is an active member of the Friends of Burford. The company deals day in and day out with websites, promotions, advertising and online payments. So it was obvious for him to offer his services for free, to help setup this site. The whole website, design & graphics, payments system and securely printed tickets have been provided "pro bono".

Howard says; "These days most of us are happy to pay for things online and conveniently, using our Credit/Debit cards. It makes less paperwork for us in terms of forms and cheques, as well as being friendlier to the environment. So I thought we should try it out for this event and see what people think, if it's popular then we would use it again for events such as this".

If you have a local business or club and need to take member's payments, sell online or just need a new or improved website, then give us a call on 08453886475 or 07920056333. You can also email admin@landis-media.co.uk if you have any queries or questions about the site or what we do.
